6 Practical Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Colors

Planning a wedding involves a lot of decision-making and one of the first decisions you’ll make is choosing a color scheme for your wedding. But with so many great colors to choose from, how will you ever decide which ones to pick for your big day? These real-world tips will help you find the perfect colors for your wedding:

  1. Consider the Setting
  2. One thing that will greatly influence your color choice is the setting for your wedding. Each venue will have a different look that can help you to rule out certain colors. For instance, an outdoor wedding will typically have lighter/brighter colors like greens, pinks, and yellows rather than dark dramatic colors like plum, black, or burgundy. Since you most likely have to reserve your wedding venue before doing anything else, this big decision that you’ve already made will set the stage for choosing the right colors for your wedding.

  3. Go Seasonal
  4. Nothing is easier than using the season when your wedding will occur as a basis for your color scheme! Going with some playful greens/yellows for a spring wedding, a warm palate of reds/oranges/browns for a fall wedding or an icy palate of whites/blues/silvers for a winter wedding is a great way to ensure that your colors will look picture-perfect!

  5. Incorporate a Theme
  6. If you and your partner have a shared passion or particular style, you may want to incorporate that theme into your wedding. For instance, these popular wedding themes have distinct color palates:

    • Rustic Charm – browns, pastels
    • Modern – black, deep reds/blues/purples
    • Vintage – ivory, soft pinks, browns
    • Fairytale – pinks and purples
    • Beach – blues and greens
    • Classic – white
    • Nautical – complementary blues
    • Garden/Outdoors – greens, yellows, pinks
    • Retro – bright neon colors

You can get even more creative if you’re feeling adventurous, centering your wedding theme around your favorite place, time period, movie, TV show, video game, or holiday.

  7. Create a Vibe
  8. Your colors will set the tone for your wedding, with deeper colors indicating a more formal wedding and lighter colors indicating a more casual wedding. Bright colors convey a high energy vibe while pastels and muted soft tones convey a more laid-back vibe. Knowing how you want your wedding to be perceived and what guests should expect out of the event can help guide you in the direction of a particular color palate.

  9. Pick Your Favorites
  10. If all else fails, just choose our favorite colors for your wedding! You’re already selecting your favorite dress style, menu items, and time of the year for your wedding, so why not just do the same for our colors? Picking your favorites ensures that you’ll feel good about the big day regardless of what anyone else thinks. (Plus, you’ll be the one looking at the pictures and videos years later, not Aunt Edna.) Go with your gut and choose what you think looks great!

  11. 6. Keep it Simple
  12. Some people hear the term “color palate” and assume that they’ll need a whole slew of colors to splash on everything related to their big day. The truth of the matter though is that you really only need one or two colors (three max) to create a good-looking color scheme for your wedding. You don’t want to overdo it and end up having your wedding venue look like a tie-dyed shirt (unless of course, that’s the theme you decide on!) Keep in mind that as you start to stack up wedding essentials like invitations, table linens, floral arrangements, bridesmaids’ dresses, etc. there will be some natural color variation from item to item, so you’ll already have some variety in your color scheme.

Stepping Inside a Restroom Trailer for the First Time – One Woman’s Journey

Hello, my name is Betty and boy do I have a story for you! I’d like to tell you the tale of the first time I ever experienced a portable restroom trailer. I can hear you now wondering “Is this lady crazy?” and “Is she really going to talk about using the toilet?!”

It probably does seem silly to write a story about using bathroom, but I’m telling you, this wasn’t just any bathroom! It was a luxury restroom trailer. Now, for those of you who don’t have any idea what that means and are assuming I’m basically just talking about a porta potty, flush that idea right down the toilet! (See what I did there?) The difference between a luxury portable restroom and a porta john is basically like the difference between a soufflé and a Twinkie. I kid you not! Don’t believe me? Read on…

Okay, so back to the story. I was at an outdoor wedding and I really had to use the bathroom. I had been holding it for a while because I saw that there was a bathroom trailer and I just assumed it was going to be like any other portable toilet I’d ever used. And, I think I speak for all of humankind when I say, I’ve had a few experiences with porta potties that I’d like to forget, but unfortunately can’t. So I finally gave in and trudged over to the trailer, which was actually conveniently located pretty close to the barn where the reception was taking place. The first thing I noticed was that even though it was starting to get dark, I didn’t have any trouble getting to or into the trailer because of the exterior lighting. This was already a big step up from a typical portable toilet where you need your phone to see what you’re even doing in there! Oh, and I could actually say that I was “using the little girls’ room” too because there were different areas for men and women.

Upon entering the women’s bathroom, I was absolutely dumbfounded by what I saw. It was… nice! Like, actually really nice inside! It was laid out like a regular bathroom with several stalls and multiple sinks. The walls had some pretty pictures hanging on them and there was a little vase with some flowers by the paper towel dispenser. I hesitated, reeling from the good-looking interior, and chose a stall. While I was in there doing my business, I glanced under the stall door and saw an accent rug out in the main area and wooden cabinetry under the sink. I guess I missed those before because I was so captivated by everything else at waist-level and above, but they were really nice touches. Afterwards, I turned and flushed the toilet instinctually and then it hit me – these were flushable toilets! Portable toilets that flush?! I had never seen such a thing before! I was used to regular portable toilets where everything just sits there and you have to look at everything that everyone else left behind – yuck.

I exited the stall and went to the sink, where I set down my purse on the clean-looking countertop and washed my hands… with running hot water! I actually felt clean, which is something I can’t say of those wall-mounted sanitizer pumps. I took advantage of the large mirror to reapply some makeup and then made my exit. When I stepped back out of the trailer, I was again taken aback because it had been so nice inside, I sort of forgot I was at a barn wedding. I fully expected to step out and find myself in a hotel outside of a ballroom or something.

So there you have it! That was my first experience using a luxury portable restroom. Want to share a story of your own? Share some details in the comments section!

4 Reasons Why Planning an Event is Easier than you Think

With warmer weather right around the corner you’re probably already starting to think about the parties and events that you’ll want to host this summer. But even with so much time between us and those long summer nights, there’s plenty of time to overthink your upcoming social plans. This is why planning a private event can feel overwhelming at times. But we’re here to remind you that it really doesn’t have to be! Here are four tips for simplifying your event planning to put together an event that’s fun and easy to pull off!

  1. You Can Host People Outside
  2. Don’t think that just because a party is happening at your place that you need to have people traipsing through your home! Why spend the time cleaning and tidying your house when you can take advantage of the nice summer weather and just keep everyone outside instead? By renting a tent to protect guests from too much sun or the chance of rain and portable restroom trailer you can make sure everyone’s needs are met without needing to have people overrunning your home.

  3. The Guest List Can Include Everyone
  4. Often times deciding who to invite can get tedious, political, and downright frustrating. By having the event outside, you’re not capped in the same way that you would be if you intended on hosting everyone under your roof. So, take advantage of that and just invite everyone. Inviting everyone on your block or all of your family in the area ensures no one’s feelings will get hurt by being left out. Some people won’t come, but they’ll be flattered that you thought of them and you’ll likely see more invites being extended to you as a result.

  5. Food Can Be Catered
  6. You don’t have to cook for every event that you host – that’s why catering was invented! Find a good caterer in the area and put together a menu for your event. You’ll enjoy the party more if you don’t have to cook, and you’ll be supporting a local business! Of course catering can be more expensive than doing the cooking yourself, so if you’re on a budget you’ll either have to pick less expensive menu options from the caterer, or go the potluck route and have everyone bring something to share.

  7. Entertainment Doesn’t Have to Be Elaborate
  8. Hiring a band is fun, but you don’t have to do anything that elaborate to ensure that guests have a good time. Doing something simple like running a cord outside to a stereo and providing lawn games can be just as fun! Popular tailgating games like washers or bags can keep partygoers entertained for hours! And if kids are invited, be sure to include activities for little ones as well!
