Outdoor weddings can be simple or elaborate, making them either a low-cost rustic option or an elegant engaging affair. If you’ve ever been to an upscale outdoor wedding, you’ve likely seen the kind of luxury that couples can bring into their big day. However, this luxury clearly comes at a price. Find out which items are worth the cost!
Luxury Restroom Trailers
Providing guests with adequate restrooms is essential. While porta potties can serve the basic function of providing bathrooms, luxury restroom trailers are so much nicer. These upscale units look nice from the outside and spectacular on the inside! Boasting flushing toilets, running hot/cold water, climate-controlled interiors, and elegant finishes, these bathrooms are the ultimate in outdoor event luxury.
The big question is, are they worth it? Absolutely! Luxury portable restroom trailers offer the kind of aesthetic that is expected at outdoor special events while giving guests of all ages a comfortable, spacious place to get ready, use the bathroom, and freshen up. These are a luxury you do not want to skip!
Event Tent
To tent or not to tent, that is the question. Many engaged couples end up fighting over whether to rent a tent for their outdoor function. No one wants to pay for something that they don’t need, which is why some couples opt to forgo the tent altogether.
So, is it worth it? The question you need to ask yourself is “What will happen if we don’t have a tent and we end up needing one?” If you are renting a tent to keep guests dry in the case of rain or to keep guests cool in the case of bright sun and hot temperatures, consider what your backup plan will be if you don’t have tent. If there won’t be anywhere else suitable for guests to take cover from the elements, you probably need a tent. The last thing you want is your big day getting rained out or guests getting overheated and sunburnt. Either of these scenarios will likely cause people to leave early, ruining your big day. Renting a tent ensures that guests will be able to stay comfortable throughout the duration of your event.
Patio Heaters
Much like a tent, heaters aim to keep guests comfortable if the weather doesn’t cooperate. However, unlike a tent, which can be necessary even with a small amount of rain, heaters are only important when it gets significantly colder than expected. Guests can typically deal with slight fluctuations in temperature because many people will bring a sweater or jacket to an outdoor wedding in case of such instances.
Are heaters worth the cost? Typically, no. Many times, engaged couples will plan for the worst, renting heaters in case of cold weather, only to not need them on the big day. Unless you are having an evening wedding or an outdoor wedding during the off-peak season (early spring or fall), you can probably forgo the cost of patio heaters. Additionally, heater rentals do not typically book up as far in advance as tent rentals (they also don’t take as long to set up), which means that you can wait until shortly before the event, when more reliable weather forecasts are available, to reserve them. For smaller weddings, you may even be able to borrow them from friends and family instead of splurging for the costs of commercial rentals.
Additional Entertainment
Some couples choose to have extra entertainment at their wedding receptions. This can range from live music to children’s entertainment (petting zoo, bounce house, etc.) to a photo booth, and everything in between. Typically, couples will choose to include entertainment for one of two reasons: to keep guests happy who aren’t as into the traditional wedding stuff like first dances, or because they can get a discount through the wedding venue or wedding planner that they’re using.
In our experience, this is typically a bad idea because it shifts the focus away from the newlyweds. If guests don’t want to be a part of the usual wedding details, they will probably just skip the wedding, instead of going and hoping that there will be something else to do. Also, unless these other activities have some sort of connection to the wedding couple, they usually come off as cheesy and confusing. Don’t spend money on things that may or may not be appealing to guests, instead focus on the things that have meaning for you and your spouse to-be.
Signature Cocktail
Offering a special cocktail is a fun way to personalize your wedding menu. Couples that select a signature cocktail usually pick a drink that they both love or maybe the first drink that they shared together. However, this drink usually carries a higher price tag than just offering beer or wine for guests. Is this added cost worth it?
While a special drink is a neat addition, there’s no guarantee that guests will enjoy it as much as the newlyweds, so you may end up paying for something that other people don’t want. In short, it’s definitely skippable. Instead, opt for some fancy cocktails on the honeymoon and keep the open bar options simple to reduce costs.
