Wedding Planning 101 – Finding The Best Vendors

Having the right vendors can truly make or break a wedding! Nothing can bring down what would otherwise have been a really great event quite like hiring an experienced photographer, caterer, florist, or DJ. This is why it’s so important to find the best vendors for your wedding needs well in advance of the big occasion.

Follow these 4 tips for advice on how to make your special day go off without a hitch!

Do Your Research

Any vendor can have a great website, but what you really want to know is what other brides are saying about how they did! Look past the glamorous photos on their websites and carefully written text to dig deeper into how well they manage customer relationships and perform on the big day. There are plenty of online review sites that you can consult for feedback on what kind of a job they’ve done at other area weddings.

One thing to keep in mind though is that you should always take these reviews with a grain of salt because you don’t actually know any these brides personally, so what might have been a great experience for one bride may not be what you were envisioning for your wedding at all. Similarly, some brides can be incredibly demanding and even if a company performs well at the wedding, these bridezillas will always find something to complain about. Online reviews tend to polarize experiences, which is why personal referrals are always the most trustworthy sources. Ask other women that you know who have gotten married for referrals and then follow up with these companies to determine whether or not they sound like they’ll be a good fit for your event.

Ask The Right Questions

Always go into a phone or in-person meeting with a potential vendor armed with a lot of questions to clarify exactly what you should expect to receive (and pay for) if you choose them. Honest companies won’t hide the details about the products/services that they’re providing and will give you a heads up about any extra fees that may apply, but it never hurts to ask.

Find out from friends and family what they had wished that they asked of their vendors and then make a big list with any questions or concerns that you have so that you can discuss them upfront.

Get a Contract or Agreement

A written and signed agreement ensures that no additional expenses will pop up later on that you weren’t expecting. It also gives you legal recourse if there was an issue where the vendor didn’t show up or failed to provide the products/services as promised. The good news is that many vendors already have contracts written up to protect their businesses, so they’re not difficult to get put together. If, for some reason, your vendor doesn’t have these types of forms, you can find template online to customize for your wedding.

Follow Up Before the Wedding

A phone call or email in advance of your big day is a good way to ensure that all of the details are set and that nothing else is required of you. If there was a misunderstanding about any of the details, this will give you time to identify the problem and fix it before it negatively effects your wedding.
