Selecting the Perfect Fall Wedding Color Palate

Deciding on colors for your wedding is a very exciting first step! However, if you’ve been planning your wedding for a long time, you may have trouble narrowing your color choice down to just a few main colors and accents. There are so many wonderful colors to choose from, and your palate is only limited by your imagination!

If you need some inspiration, you can always look at wedding invitation sites for ideas on colors that work well together. Going this route an easy way to ensure that your invitations, thank you cards, and other correspondence match your colors. This strategy may also help you to think creatively!

The autumn is a lovely time for a wedding because there are so many beautiful colors to choose from to set the stage. We service outdoor weddings across the state with our luxury restrooms, which means that we’ve seen thousands of color combinations across all four seasons. Here are some of our fall favorites:

Metallic

Gold and silver make for wonderful autumn colors, especially for evening weddings. Metallic colors add a touch of elegance, making weddings feel lavish and indulgent. Some couples choose to stick with either gold or silver, while others combine them together with whites and creams to create an extravagant, yet tasteful, look.

Cranberry

Deep reds, dark oranges, and rich browns come together beautifully, especially when paired with leaves, cranberries, and rustic wooden décor. This is a popular color palate for barn weddings in Michigan, making it a classic autumn choice.

Foliage

Bringing the colors of leaves into your big day using vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds is a wonderful way to celebrate the season. These bright colors found in nature ensure that your wedding won’t end up looking too drab. It also serves as a reminder of the season even when the celebration moves indoors. Remember, you don’t have to use each color equally, you can choose or two main colors, and use other foliage-inspired hues as accents to keep it from becoming an assault on the eyes.

End of Summer

Fall isn’t simply the start of a new season, it’s also the end of another. If you’re looking for a unique color palate just as the seasons are changing, you can select fruity summer-end colors like mango, peach, and cream to give your wedding a playful softness. (You may even get some deals on these types of colors as retailers close out their selection in these hues for the season.)

Halloween

It takes the right couple to pull off a Halloween color scheme, but black and orange can be a fun way to celebrate the throughout the fall months with your wedding. A daytime or evening wedding with the right amount of orange and black can create a fun family-friendly vibe. (We’ve even seen couples ask guests to come in costume to their Halloween-themed wedding, but that’s entirely up to you!)

Dramatic

Typical autumn colors of red, orange, and yellow with a contrast of very dark blue or bright purple can set your wedding apart from other seasonal celebrations. Using an “off script” color like blue or purple for larger areas like tablecloths will give your autumn colors opportunity to shine against a, unexpected backdrop.

Monochromatic with a Twist

Gray gradients and monochromatic color schemes are a sophisticated choice for weddings year-round, but using too much black and white can create a feeling that’s too somber. That’s why you’ll want to add a pop of color like yellow to round out your color choice. Going monochromatic with a twist is a great way to give your wedding a touch of fun amidst the elegance of stronger colors. It also personalizes your choice by adding a more custom feel to a standard color palate.

The Best Outdoor Wedding Venue Ideas

Outdoor weddings are trendy, family-friendly, and affordable which is why so many couples choose to have them year-round. If you’re looking for a beautiful outdoor wedding venue here are six great ideas for your big day:

Parks

Local parks are a great place to have a wedding because they’re inexpensive and can often accommodate a large guest list. Public parks typically have shaded areas and pavilions where guests can eat, dance, and cool off in the hot summer months. As an added bonus, local guests won’t have to travel far to attend your wedding.

Just be sure that the park that you choose has the proper accommodations in terms of parking, restrooms, and handicapped accessibility. You may have to bring in restroom trailers to provide guests with enough bathrooms near where your ceremony and reception will be held.

Farms

Barn weddings are more popular right now than ever before, and with good reason! Farm land provides a gorgeous backdrop for weddings of all sizes. Dressing up rustic barns to provide a shabby chic elegance is a nice way to create an intimate feeling for your special day. There are plenty of barns across Michigan to choose from that can host your event and cater to all your needs.

Museums

Whether it’s an art museum, botanical garden, or historical museum, cultural institutions are a fun choice for weddings because they provide a sophisticated flair to your event. Because these venues are accustomed to having corporate events, black tie affairs, and other formal gatherings, they often have a list of vendors that they work with to make the process seamless and worry-free.

While these venues are posh options for evening weddings, having a daytime wedding at a museum provides a cultural appeal. Many venues will allow your guests entry into the museum as well after the reception as part of the wedding booking.

Vineyards

Nothing is more stunning than a wedding at a vineyard. If you want to wow your guests with scenery and class, choosing a vineyard is the way to go. There are plenty of vineyards to choose from throughout Michigan’s wine country that can accommodate a summer wedding. Just be sure to plan in advance, as these popular wedding destinations book up quickly.

Colleges or Universities

It may be unconventional, but a college or university campus is a lovely place to have a wedding because the grounds are already well-manicured and set up to handle large groups of people. If the couple getting married met in college, the institution of higher learning that they attended might be the perfect place for their nuptials to add a personal touch.

Campgrounds

A campground is a quirky place for a wedding that’s well-suited for couples that enjoy the outdoors. For small intimate weddings, getting away with your closest friends and family members for the weekend to get married and camp together is a fun way to let everyone share in the event. Plus, who doesn’t want to roast marshmallows over a post-wedding bonfire?

This Year’s Hottest Fall Wedding Trends

Looking for the top autumn wedding trends? Look no further! These are some of the hottest trends in weddings for 2016 but are sure to have staying power for years to come! Check out these great tips to incorporate into your fall wedding:

Wild Flowers

Floral arrangements are a must-have regardless of the season, but as the weather turns cooler, there are a lot more options when it comes to flowers than you might think. Instead of going the traditional route of roses, why not incorporate wild flowers into your centerpieces and bouquets. There are plenty of varieties to choose from with the same striking colors that you would expect to see at a summer wedding and the shapes and textures are much more unique.

Metallics

Brass, copper, and bronzed metal finishes are very popular this fall because they add an exciting pop of color to the more striking autumn palates that many brides and grooms choose. You can use metallic colored vases, napkin rings, and other simple accents to bring this fall staple into your color scheme or choose more dramatic effect by using gilded leaves or a metallic foil wrap on your wedding cake. Regardless of how you incorporate it, a metallic accent adds a touch of sophistication and excitement!

Cranberries

Nothing is more quintessentially autumn than cranberries, which is why they’re becoming more common in centerpieces, bridal bouquets, and corsages. One of the simplest, yet most elegant, ways to use cranberries is to have candles floating amidst cranberries in decorative glass containers to light the centers of tables, the guest book area, and anywhere else you want a functional decoration.

Colored Suits

While black used to be the only acceptable color for grooms and groomsmen to wear, colored suits are starting to make a comeback. For fall you can consider deep greens, blues, or even reds to provide a striking contrast to the bride’s white gown and lighter colored bridesmaids’ dresses.

Matching Outerwear

With autumn weddings comes the possibility of cold weather, which isn’t typically a problem for men in suits or tuxes, but can make for an unpleasant event for ladies in dresses. Plan ahead and find matching outwear for your bridesmaids and yourself that compliments the rest of your outfits. This could be a fur (or faux fur) stole, cropped cotton jacket, wool shrug, or any other long-sleeve piece that you like the look of with your dress.

Personalized Stamps

Getting a custom stamp made with the couple’s names and date of the wedding is a great way to infuse the couple’s unique personality across all of your wedding-related stationary. You can use a stamp on your wedding invitations and thank you cards as well as table assignments, wedding ceremony programs and anywhere else that you can think of really! In fact, some couples even use stamps on boxes or bags that contain small edible favors for guests.

Lanterns

The soft light of candles in lanterns is a classy way to bring the feeling of fall into your wedding. Hanging lanterns from trees or the ceiling of your reception area creates a chandelier-like feeling with natural light. Just be sure that your wedding venue will allow these to be hung, as many barns and other rustic settings may have strict requirements about what can and can’t be lit inside. If all else fails, you can always place them on table out of the reach of children or use them to light pathways outside for the same rustic fall feeling.

Drink Stations

Drink stations with samples for guests are all the rage right now. From juice bars to coffee stands and craft liquor stations, more and more couples are choosing to offer their guests creative drinks to make for a more memorable experience. For the fall we would suggest doing a dark roast coffee bar, whisky or bourbon tastings station, hot chocolate bar, or a hot apple cider stand. These beverages will put a signature touch on your event that your guests will always remember.

Vows at Dusk

Getting married outside is always great and the autumn is a great opportunity to have your wedding ceremony outside as the sun sets and follow it up with a cozy reception indoors afterwards. Take advantage of the sun setting earlier to have a romantically themed outdoor wedding complete with candles to light the way for guests back to your reception. Just be sure that you provide all of the amenities that guests expect if it’s outdoors – things like propane heaters, luxury restrooms, and sturdy chairs to keep guests comfortable while they’re outdoors.
