Stepping Inside a Restroom Trailer for the First Time – One Woman’s Journey

Hello, my name is Betty and boy do I have a story for you! I’d like to tell you the tale of the first time I ever experienced a portable restroom trailer. I can hear you now wondering “Is this lady crazy?” and “Is she really going to talk about using the toilet?!”

It probably does seem silly to write a story about using bathroom, but I’m telling you, this wasn’t just any bathroom! It was a luxury restroom trailer. Now, for those of you who don’t have any idea what that means and are assuming I’m basically just talking about a porta potty, flush that idea right down the toilet! (See what I did there?) The difference between a luxury portable restroom and a porta john is basically like the difference between a soufflé and a Twinkie. I kid you not! Don’t believe me? Read on…

Okay, so back to the story. I was at an outdoor wedding and I really had to use the bathroom. I had been holding it for a while because I saw that there was a bathroom trailer and I just assumed it was going to be like any other portable toilet I’d ever used. And, I think I speak for all of humankind when I say, I’ve had a few experiences with porta potties that I’d like to forget, but unfortunately can’t. So I finally gave in and trudged over to the trailer, which was actually conveniently located pretty close to the barn where the reception was taking place. The first thing I noticed was that even though it was starting to get dark, I didn’t have any trouble getting to or into the trailer because of the exterior lighting. This was already a big step up from a typical portable toilet where you need your phone to see what you’re even doing in there! Oh, and I could actually say that I was “using the little girls’ room” too because there were different areas for men and women.

Upon entering the women’s bathroom, I was absolutely dumbfounded by what I saw. It was… nice! Like, actually really nice inside! It was laid out like a regular bathroom with several stalls and multiple sinks. The walls had some pretty pictures hanging on them and there was a little vase with some flowers by the paper towel dispenser. I hesitated, reeling from the good-looking interior, and chose a stall. While I was in there doing my business, I glanced under the stall door and saw an accent rug out in the main area and wooden cabinetry under the sink. I guess I missed those before because I was so captivated by everything else at waist-level and above, but they were really nice touches. Afterwards, I turned and flushed the toilet instinctually and then it hit me – these were flushable toilets! Portable toilets that flush?! I had never seen such a thing before! I was used to regular portable toilets where everything just sits there and you have to look at everything that everyone else left behind – yuck.

I exited the stall and went to the sink, where I set down my purse on the clean-looking countertop and washed my hands… with running hot water! I actually felt clean, which is something I can’t say of those wall-mounted sanitizer pumps. I took advantage of the large mirror to reapply some makeup and then made my exit. When I stepped back out of the trailer, I was again taken aback because it had been so nice inside, I sort of forgot I was at a barn wedding. I fully expected to step out and find myself in a hotel outside of a ballroom or something.

So there you have it! That was my first experience using a luxury portable restroom. Want to share a story of your own? Share some details in the comments section!
