Portable Toilet Rentals – What Does “Clean Dependable Service” Really Mean?

Here at Kerkstra our motto is “clean dependable service,” which sounds like a pretty simple motto, but we want to take a moment to let you know what that means to us.

Clean

As a portable toilet supplier as well as septic service provider, we work with some very dirty things but that doesn’t mean that we don’t take what we do seriously. We strive to provide portable toilet units and luxury restroom trailers that are so clean that you can’t wait to use them! Our employees and owners take pride in servicing these units themselves to make sure that the job is done right every time!

Our units are state of the art and we treat them as such – maintaining them properly so that that you can be as proud to have them at your event as we are to provide them. We offer a lot of different options so that you can find the right units to fit your needs and budget. Whether it’s a standard porta potty, elite unit, or luxury restroom, we have tons of options for you to choose from.

Dependable

There’s nothing worse than having an event and not getting what you expected, which is why you can be assured that it will arrive on schedule as promised when you rent a portable toilet from us! Our luxury portable toilets are rented out pretty consistently for most of the busy season though, so be sure that you get your dates claimed early!)

All of our restroom rentals are delivered clean and fully stocked with the supplies you need to get guests through your event comfortably. If you rent restrooms for a longer period of time (like a weekend event), we will service them regularly so that they remain clean and fully functional. After your event is over, we will come pick the units up in a timely manner and leave the area as clean as if there were never any portable toilets there at all.

The 10 Biggest Wedding Cost Savers

The cost of a wedding can get out of hand in the planning stages if you don’t keep a close eye on your budget and look for places that you can make sacrifices to save some money. If you’re trying to plan a budget wedding (or just avoid breaking the bank), here are some great wedding cost saving strategies. Obviously you probably won’t use all of these tips, but implementing just one or two of them can help you save big on your upcoming wedding!

  1. Trim the Guest List Down
  2. While planning a wedding the tendency is to get carried away with the guest list. Instead of inviting everyone that your family thinks should get an invite, just keep the guest list small and invite only the most important people to you and your spouse-to-be. This will ensure that your special day is a close-knit intimate affair and save you a lot of money.

  3. Do Invitations Online
  4. Invitations can get expensive (especially if you decided to ignore tip #1), so instead of opting for the fancy printed ones, why not just send online invitations. There are plenty of great e-invite companies that offer lovely formal invitations for you to use. You can choose your template and customize them as much as you’d like (sometimes even adding photos and other artwork to make them even more personal.)

  5. Wear a Secondhand Dress
  6. Hand-me-down dresses used to be seen as cheap and tacky, but they’re really making a comeback. Why not wear your Mom or Grandmother’s old dress? A vintage piece like this often has a lot more sentimental value and meaning than one you would pick out at a dress shop anyways!

  7. Opt for an Inexpensive Venue
  8. Some wedding venues cost a fortune to book and then they require that you use their vendors (caterers, decorators, florists, etc.), which tend to cost a lot more than if you were able to find your own vendors. Instead of getting trapped into overpaying, choose a less expensive venue and make sure that they’ll give you the freedom to shop around.

Getting married outside is very popular in the spring and summer. In fact, barn weddings are one of the most popular trends in outdoor weddings right now. If you plan on having your wedding in an outdoor area, be sure that there are plenty of bathrooms for guests to use so that they don’t feel like they’re camping. Renting luxury restroom trailers is a good way to keep that formal wedding feel even while outdoors!

  9. Have a Cash Bar
  10. An open bar can be the most expensive part of a wedding, so opting for a cash bar is one of the best ways to save money! If you decide to go the route of a cash bar, be sure that there are plenty of complimentary non-alcoholic drinks for guests like pop, lemonade, and iced tea to give guests a good selection of beverages.

If a cash bar just isn’t going to be an option, consider offering a limited open bar. Some venues will give you a big discount if you decide to just offer beer and wine because then they don’t have to have experienced bartenders and a variety of liquors on hand to make fancy mixed drinks. Also, if you’re paying a per guest rate for an open bar of any sort, be sure to inquire about whether or not you have to pay for underage guests as well. Being able to avoid paying for children in the head count can also provide some savings.

  11. Have a Friend or Family Member Marry You
  12. Priests and other clergy people/religious figures charge a fee to marry you. In many cases it’s less expensive to have a friend or family member get certified to perform the ceremony online. This is really a win-win because it makes the whole event more personal! Want to entice a guest to marry you? Let them know that that can be their wedding gift to you!

  13. Skip the Photographer
  14. With just about everyone carrying around quality cameras in their pockets thanks to smart phone innovation in recent years, a professional photographer has become a nice add-on rather than an essential. If you want to cut out some expenses, skipping the photographer is a good way to keep your wedding budget-friendly.

  15. Forgo the Little Extras
  16. Favors and floral centerpieces are nice, but they are by no means necessary. To keep your wedding on budget, cut out the frivolous extras. It may not seem like much to splurge here or there on small decorative items, but those costs can really ad up and get you further away from your target wedding cost.

  17. Make the Cake instead of Buying It
  18. If you plan on inviting a family member or friend who is a great baker, why not ask him/her to make the cake instead of buying one? This is another place where you can cut costs while making the whole event more intimate. Don’t think anyone is going to be up for the pressure of making a lavish three-tiered wedding cake? You can always choose to go a different route than cake – opting for cupcakes, cookies, or pastries. This idea is enough to have your Grandma lining up to make the wedding dessert!

  19. Send Thank You Emails or Call
  20. It’s important to thank your guests (and anyone who couldn’t attend but sent you a gift) after your wedding. But instead of buying expensive thank you notes, you can always thank your guests in a way that won’t cost you anything – like via email or phone. What matters the most is the fact that you remembered to say thank you and took the time out of your busy newlywed life to offer kind and genuine words to the people who were a part of your special day.

If you simply can’t bear the idea of not sending a thank you note in the mail, buying cards at a department store like Target will cost a lot less than ordering personalized ones online. If you’re feeling really crafty, you can always make them as well to save money and add some personal flair.

All About Farm Portable Toilets

If you’re looking for information about portable toilets for farms, then look no further! We’ll tell you which types of portable restrooms work best for farms and why you can’t use just any porta potty. You can trust that we know what we’re talking about because we provide agricultural portable restrooms for farms in over 12 counties across West Michigan. Simply put, we know bathrooms and we know the local agricultural community!

GAP and Portable Toilets

First thing’s first, let’s discuss why farms need portable toilets anyways. For campers and outdoor lovers, a farm may look like it has plenty of opportunities to duck behind a tree or tall crop and do your business, but the reality is that farms have to be incredibly clean to avoid contaminated crops. This is where the GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) program comes into play. In order to reduce the risk of produce contamination, clean practices were established that farms have to follow to prove state and national compliance. GAP focuses on keeping farms clean so that their produce is clean as well. The ultimate goal with GAP is to keep people safe and ensure confidence in the national agricultural industry, which is something that benefits both growers and also consumers. For more in-depth information on GAP, visit our article GAP Explained.

To keep workers (and therefore crops) clean, farms need to have the right sanitary facilities in place. This is where portable toilets come into play. Having readily accessible restrooms gives workers a place to go to the bathroom, wash up, and return to work clean enough to do their job safely. So what exactly sets GAP compliant portable toilets apart from your average porta john?

Farm Porta Potty Features

Agricultural portable restrooms have a variety of farm-specific features. First of all, units are housed on small portable trailers to allow them to be easily moved from one area of the property to another. This is important because larger farms may have workers picking and processing produce in different locations from day to day. Farm portable bathrooms are easy to move and get into spaces that a tractor can get to but a portable toilet delivery truck wouldn’t be able to access.

Additionally, they are outfitted with special features like sinks with running water and soap dispensers. This ensures that workers are given the resources needed to adequately wash their hands before eating lunch, after using the restroom, etc. Frequently they also have special bilingual signage that instructs workers on proper hand washing protocols.
The units, like any other portable toilet, are serviced regularly by a reputable portable toilet supplier to ensure cleanliness. Service records are diligently kept in each unit, which is important because that’s required for GAP compliance.
Now that you know why agricultural portable toilets are so important, we bet you’ll look at that form porta potty differently the next time you pass by one!

Planning Your Spring Event

As we approach the busy spring/summer event season, you might be tossing around the idea of hosting an event for your local community, but where do you start? If you’ve never planned an event before (or you’re just out of practice), this event planning how-to guide will outline the most important steps along the way!

Determine an Objective

The first thing you need to do is figure out why you want to host this particular event because that reason will be what you’ll use to convince the community that they should attend. Obviously paid events are organized to make their organizers money, but that’s just part of the story. That might be driving force behind hosting an event, but why this event?

Is it to give local families and kids something fun to do? Raise awareness about a particular cause or money for a worthy charity? Make use of popular local attractions or features (like a beach or lake for example)? Offer a different type of activity that your community has never seen before? Whatever the reason, that will be your value proposition when it comes time to market the event. It will also help drive your vision when it comes to the critical stage of determining the specifics for the event.

Set a Date

When selecting a date for your event, be sure to check community calendars and ask around to ensure that you won’t choose a date that conflicts with another community event. Not only should you ensure that the location you plan on using for the event is available, but you should ensure that there aren’t any other large events that will conflict with yours in order to give yourself the best chance of attracting large crowds.

Secure Vendors

Once you know what you want your event to look like and when it will be, you’ll want to book your vendors. It may be possible at his stage that one of the vendors you had your heart set on using is booked for those dates, in which case you may need to alter your dates. (For this reason it’s a good idea to have a backup date available as well.)
You’ll want to secure your most important vendors early on in the process because portable toilet suppliers, caterers, and other vendors are often booked out months in advance.

Invite Key Participants

There may be a certain guest list that you want to be sure is in attendance. If this is the case, send out information concerning the event as early as possible to these key participants. This way you can get your event on their radar right away. If there are any celebrities or well-known figures that you want to be able to tout when marketing the event, get them to commit to attending early on so that you’re not scrambling at the last moment to find that hook to draw people in.

Market the Event

Get on social media and market your event! If you don’t have the time (or knowhow) to do the social media marketing yourself, hire a professional to help you out so that you can be sure that the event will be well represented online in your community.
If there are other popular local avenues that you can utilize to spread awareness for your event, get started with those channels as well. These may include TV, radio, flyers, billboards, etc. Be sure to also spread the word verbally in your local micro-communities (church, school, workplace, doctor’s office, etc.) Just get the word out!

Have a Contingency Plan

Often spring and summertime events take place outdoors, but if you’ve ever been to and event that you were really excited about only to have it get rained out, you’ll understand how disappointing it can be when there isn’t a contingency plan in place. Depending on the nature of your event it may not be possible to have a plan B, but taking the steps early to plan for bad weather or other potential event-ruining occurrences can help you avoid disaster later on!
